"I became aware of Spirits Burning from Bridget's myspace page. Then she asked me if I'd like to play on a track to which I said yes!"

"Don sent me the backing track which had most of the instrument mixed. I noticed the track had the bass apparently sitting in the wrong phrases. I attempted to add my ax parts to it - with great difficulty as I kept switching my attention between the vocals & the drums & the bass. I contacted Bridget about this who said possibly the bass actually was out of kilter with the rest. So, confident now it wasn't just my ears/brain I started to record filtering out the bass, but then using my laptop unplugged - through it's own little speakers made the bass disappear! (sorry Jasper!) And laid down the track in the faith that it would come right "in the mix". Which it certainly did.
As soon as I heard the track I had thought "Nile Rogers chuckka-chuckka clipped funky-as-f**k funk open chords" building up to some fat un-clipped chunky riffing at the peaks. Which is what I stuck with. I used my Roland GR300 analogue synth-guitar to make that "auto-wah" sound for the solos. & a bit of spacey plectrum string-rub glissando swooping in & out joined the phrases. "
Statement
