Involvement with Spirits Burning

"Don heard me at a Saraswati Puja in Oakland and asked me to record. I figured why not. Very surprised and delighted to continually discover the album mentioned on website after website, and so figured why not?, when I was asked again."

Recording For Earth Born

(Teed plays on Sarah's Surprise and Behind The Veil)

"Bridget’s Unique approach to Chord Progressions. She sings what feels right to her, without instrumental accompaniment. All the rest of us build our tracks on that. Consequently different musicians at different parts of the recording Process heard different chords behind the same song. When all of these tracks were mixed together, some remarkable suspensions occurred.

Because I’ve been playing Indian music for so long, I’d forgotten what it was like to listen for Chord progressions. So I eventually had to Create a Guitar track of my own for Sarah’s Surprise. Behind the Veil used lots of Fourths, which could be heard as fifths of a lower chord. So I changed my chord progression every time I practiced it."

My instrument is both electric and Hindustani, which made the music sound both old and new at the same time."

Statement

"For over thirty years, Teed Rockwell has been playing many forms of world music on the touchstyle fretboard - a guitar-like instrument which is played by tapping the strings with the fingertips, making it possible to play a separate part with each hand. Rockwell performed in concerts and recordings with traditional musicians from many different cultures, including South America, Africa, China, and Ireland. But his greatest musical love has long been the Hindustani ragas of Northern India".
